UPF 50+ Sun Protection

What does UPF stand for?

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, which is the international standard for rating UV resistance in textiles.

What is the highest UPF rating?

That depends on the testing method used to determine the UV levels. In the United States, UPF tests adhere to the American standard AATCC 183, using the sun spectrum of Albuquerque, New Mexico, the same as the European Standard. At Sunday Afternoons, we work with an independent, certified testing agency to evaluate our fabrics wet and dry to verify UPF levels. The majority of our products are rated UPF 50+, the highest possible rating from the AATCC, blocking over 98% of UVA and UVB rays.

What UPF certifications do your hats have? How do you test them?

The majority of our line is rated UPF 50+, the highest possible rating, blocking over 98% of UVA and UVB rays. All of our materials are tested at independent labs in accordance with AATCC 183-2014, the international testing standard for UPF ratings in textiles. We conduct UPF testing on our products to ensure they meet our standards. Please check individual products for the specific UPF rating.
